What Is The COBIT® Framework?

The COBIT Framework is a framework for developing, implementing, monitoring, and improving IT governance and management practices. The COBIT Framework is a globally accepted framework providing common principles, practices and analytical tools for the management and governance of enterprise IT systems.

The COBIT framework was originally published in 1996 by ISACA, the IT Governance Institute and the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, with COBIT 5 being the newest version of the globally accepted framework. Published in 2013, the COBIT 5 Framework, the newest version, focuses on the ‘central role of information and technology in creating value for enterprises’.

The COBIT® 5 framework provides globally accepted principles, practices, analytical tools and models to help increase the trust in information systems. This version integrates other major frameworks, standards and resources, including ISACA’s Val IT and Risk IT, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL®) and related standards from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).
